ANOTHER REPORT ON MANNING

News: CBSSports.com NFL insider Mike Freeman reports that a Colts source said the team is preparing for QB Peyton Manning to miss "a large swath" of the 2011 season, if not all of it. Colts owner Jim Irsay posted on Twitter on Wednesday that Manning may be "out for awhile."
Analysis: According to Freeman, this does not mean that Manning will miss the season. However, it does mean the team's coaching staff has been told to prepare the players for life without their star QB. The source indicated to CBSSports.com that Manning has not had an additional surgery, but the problem is that his neck continues to heal slowly. It has been explained to the staff that Manning's neck could still begin to suddenly heal normally and that would allow him to play. For now, however, the Colts are preparing for the immediate future without Manning -- and so should Fantasy owners. As we've been saying for days, Fantasy owners should have a backup plan in place for Manning. For Week 1, we like Colt McCoy (vs. Cincinnati), Kevin Kolb (vs. Carolina), Kyle Orton (vs. Oakland) and of course Manning's backup, Kerry Collins (at Houston).
